Event organiser Joey Chatfield, who is both Indigenous and a member of the Warrnambool Police, said this year’s contest would combine both indoor and outdoor cricket rules.
“We’ve changed the rules to make it more exciting for everyone,” he said. “But the message is still the same. It’s about ‘Peeneeut Kanditj’, or strong relationships.
“This year’s theme is’ Let’s stop family violence’.”
The Koori side made an imposing 237 runs off its 24 overs with an even contribution led by openers Corey Mifsud (37) and Brodie Mifsud (36) while Luke Pearson managed 26.
Police members Emily Durham and Jason Puschenjak snared two wickets each but the attack was led by Chris Asenjo with three scalps.
The police team was always on the back foot and fell well short with 147.
Top score was Andy Raven with 20. Brodie Mifsud took four wickets and claimed seven catches.
