Grassmere Cricket Association vice president Glenn Mansbridge believes its successful inaugural mini big bash highlighted the benefits of trying something new.
Children took part in a junior clinic and received showbags as part of the twenty20 triple-header at Killarney on Sunday.
Mr Mansbridge said the Grassmere association – like many other sporting and community clubs in the south-west region – was aware of the challenges it faced in an era where people are spoiled for choice.
But he hopes the twenty20 carnival day will help attract a new generation.
“You have to learn and improve different facets of it,” Mr Mansbridge said.
“We are all in a situation where we are trying to better our association.
“You have to be proactive and encourage people to have a go at cricket.
You have to be proactive and encourage people.

“We have kids here who haven’t picked up a cricket bat before and they are having a ball.
“If we have a couple of kids think ‘this is good fun, I might play for a club’ – and it doesn’t have to be in the Grassmere association – then that’s great.”
