Pearl De Vere defeated Farnor West by half-a-length with River’s Gift filling the minor placing in the 1200-metre race.
Freedman, who formerly trained at Crossley but is now based at Ballarat, said a $100,000 mares race at Flemington on New Year’s Day was a serious option for the four-year-old.
“It was a good win,” he said. “She probably deserves a run in the $100,000 race on New Year’s Day. She was tough. She rallied late and did a good job to win. I’ve got to thank the Ballarat Vet Clinic. She had a wind operation after we broke her in and they did a marvellous job.”
Warrnambool trainer Jarrod McLean will set Simply Splashing for summer races at his home track over the next few weeks after his win over Pique and Life Of Waldo in a class one handicap.
“Simply Splashing is a battling type of horse who is very honest,” McLean said. “The prizemoney for races at Woodford and Koroit over the next few weeks is very good. We’ll find a race or two for him at those meetings.”
