The pair of Volkswagon transit vans have been assisting in the processing of crime scenes for two weeks.
The vehicles have been custom-built to include state of the art equipment for instant processing of a crime scene.
Sergeant Jason Puschenjak said his team of eight were grateful to be the first in Victoria to welcome the new on-board equipment.
“We’re fortunate to be the first CS unit to have the new vehicles,” he said. “They’re equipped with finger print kits, DNA, blood and trace DNA testing equipment, and accident scene equipment.
“They’re not only great for collection and storage but it means as soon as a crime has been reported to the station we can head out and assess the scene.
“It’s been a great advancement from the limited space we used to operate in.”
Sergeant Puschenjak said the vans would assist in crime scene investigation from areas “as far as Camperdown to Portland and Hamilton”.
