Warrnambool City Netball Association’s Marg Morgan believed the major factor behind the decision was her organisation’s attempts to relaunch the competition.
“The competition wasn’t really working well over the last few years,” she said.
“Netball Victoria thought it didn't generate enough interest in 2017 and in 2018 they’ve decided to scrap it all together.”
Warrnambool City Netball Association has come up with an alternative competition, the Western Regional Netball Competition, which they are now calling for expression of interest.
The competition will work similar to its predecessor consisting of three divisions consisting of open and u17 divisions.
Division one will be made up of teams from sub-regional clusters of Hampden and Warrnambool, division two will be teams of registered club players and open division will consist of teams from right across the region including Hampden, Warrnambool and District and Warrnambool City leagues.
The proposed competition will span seven weeks with six weeks for games and one for finals.
The new competition will incorporate many of the same features from the old one, including player, team, coaching and umpire development, as well as talent identification.
