MONDAY: POLICE officers at Hamilton experienced mixed emotions this morning.
Duke the green native parrot was reunited with his owners today.
The rare bird, worth $800, kept officers at the station entertained over the weekend.
“The officers here couldn’t do enough for him,” Sergeant Paul Stanhope said.
However, the owners have also asked for members of the public to be on the lookout for a similar parrot that has been missing for two months.
EARLIER: HAMILTON police are seeking the owner of a very loud native parrot which is causing chaos at the police station.
Sergeant Paul Stanhope said the parrot was handed in to police on Sunday afternoon.
"He's a loud squawking native parrot who talks a lot," he said.
"He says “hello” and “come on”. We're thinking he could belong to tennis player Lleyton Hewitt."
Sergeant Stanhope said the parrot was brought into the station in a box, but police members had since managed to get the bird a cage, fruit and seed.
"He's that comfortable he may not want to go home," he said.
"The parrot is obviously very domesticated. Anyone missing a parrot is requested to contact the Hamilton police station as soon as possible. He's very loud," he said.
