Matthew Lanyon, 33, of Hiller Street, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court.
He has been charged with four counts of unlawful assault, two of intentionally causing injury and five of breaching court orders.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose heard the victim was terrified and unwilling to make a statement to police.
She decided Mr Lanyon was an unacceptable risk of continuing to offend and interfering with witnesses.
Ms Toose said the charges were serious and if proven it was likely Mr Lanyon would be sentenced to a term of imprisonment.
Earlier: A HAMILTON man charged with physical assaults involving a woman at the weekend will appear in court on Monday.
Sergeant Callum McKinnon said the 33-year-old had been charged with 11 offences including assaults, making threats and breaching court orders.
He said the charges were alleged to have been committed in October and November when the man broke the woman's nose and kicked her.
The man will appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court for a bail/remand hearing on Monday.
