Portland police detectives arrested the man on Monday.
He was interviewed, charged with burglary and theft and bailed to appear in the Portland Magistrates Court on February 20.
The shop was broken into about 1am on Sunday morning.
Cigarettes valued at $1500 were stolen and about $2500 damage caused to the shop.
Sunday: An undisclosed amount of cigarettes were stolen from a Portland shop on Sunday morning.
Portland police Sergeant Veronica Dempsey said the burglary occurred about 1am at an Edgar Street store.
She called out for anyone with information to come forward.
“The offender has forced entry about 1am,” she said.
“We are asking for witnesses to contact Portland police or Crime Stoppers.”
