Detective Acting Sergeant Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said at least two cars had also been rummaged through in the Beamish Street, Examiner Crescent and Parker Street area.
He said reports were currently still being received by police about offenders going through cars.
“The ute was stolen and although it had a full tank of fuel it was recovered only about 160 metres away,” he said.
“Anyone with information, or who has CCTV in the area, is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Detective Acting Sergeant Ryan warned drivers to lock their vehicles and put valuable out of sight.
