Organisers of this year’s ‘Carols on the Merri’ are hoping the weather gods will find a way not to rain on their parade.
The annual event, which traditionally marks the start of the festive season, is scheduled for Friday, which meteorologists are warning will experience more then 20 millimeters of rain.
With food service due to start at 5.30pm and carols at 6pm, the GG Payne Reserve in Dennington will need to be dry to welcome its 1500 expected Christmas enthusiasts, according to organisers.
The event, now in its 20th year, has only been forced to use Brauer College as a plan B, just once.
“We’ve only had to move to Brauer’s stadium once,” said event organiser David Kelson. “And that was back in 2005.”
“Knowing Warrnambool though you never know what you’ll get. We can’t order the weather.”
