Christopher Chapman, 32, of Fitzroy Road, pleaded guilty in the  Warrnambool Magistrates Court to escaping from police custody, possession of ice, failing to stop when requested by police, breaching his community corrections order and five counts of breaching bail.

Magistrate Ron Saines told Chapman that when he was released from jail on February 17 next year he would start a 12-month CCO with treatment, rehabilitation, program and drug urine testing conditions.

He warned that Chapman would just be in and out of prison until he stopped using ice and making poor choices.

Defence counsel Alex McCulloch said Chapman had started using ice after being the victim of a run through of his home, which involved his car being stolen.

In a contest mention hearing prior to Chapman pleaded guilty, police said that on September 20 the accused was seen driving in Fitzroy Road and he was wanted on three warrants of apprehension.

Chapman took off and evaded police, travelling about 1.5 kilometres at up to 100 km/h in 50 and 60 km/h zones.

He was arrested in Lachlan Street where he said the warrants were "bull..." and he had emailed doctor's certificates to court when required.

Chapman was put in the rear of a divisional van but the lock was not fully engaged as Chapman resisted efforts to close the door.

As the divvy van was driving along Fitzroy Road, the rear door opened, Chapman shuffled to the rear of the van, dangled out his legs and then jumped and ran from the van.

He went about 20 metres before being caught by the police officers.

The action was caught on the dash camera of a following car.

Chapman was taken to the Warrnambool Base Hospital for treatment for a superficial graze.

Chapman said he noticed the divisional van door was not closed, he slid in the rear of the van and fell out.

The witness in the following vehicle had a far different version of events. 

Chapman was released on bail with conditions he report to police, not use drugs, obey an overnight curfew and answer the door when police called to check on him overnight.

On October 18 he failed to sign in at the Warrnambool police station and three times last week failed to answer the door when police went to check on him at night.

Last Friday he attended at the police station where he was arrested for breaching his bail.

A search found he was carrying a small amount of ice in his underwear.

The magistrate said Chapman had a very significant history of drug-related offending and in the past had received a number of corrections orders and a jail sentence.

He said the escape charge was serious and the account given by Chapman was not plausible. 

The magistrate said the bail offences were repeated and Chapman had also breached a corrections order.

Mr Saines said all the offending deserved a period of imprisonment which would be followed by a corrections order.

That sentencing indication was accepted by Chapman.
