In August estate resident Erin O’Grady submitted a petition for a playground with 94 signatures from people around the area.
The petition requested the city council to build a safe and accessible playground for children in the estate.
She said a playground was desperately needed for the blooming area, which is home to plenty of families.
“In the past few years many children have moved or been born into this estate,” she said.
“The playgrounds that are situated nearby are difficult to access due to a lack of pathways and footpaths.”
A council report said its open space infrastructure guidelines suggest that neighbourhood reserves such as Russell’s Creek estate “might have” a playground.
Various strategic documents note the provision of a playground for this area and another small playground is planned for the development land less than 100 metres directly to the north of the Russell’s Creek estate.
It is estimated a new playground would cost between $150,000 to $200,000, subject to the community engagement outcomes and undertaking detailed design.
