The Port Fairy Angling Club shed has a new look in time for the peak holiday season after works to replicate a historic mural were completed this month.
President Barry Starling said local artist Julie Hoey had done a great job painting the sea-themed mural.
“Everybody looks at is as they go up and down the river,” Mr Starling said. “It’s been there since 1969 originally. We pulled the shed down early last year and we’ve built another shed to replace it because the other one was full of asbestos.”
He said Moyne Shire council had requested they duplicate the mural “exactly the same as it was on the shed from the ’60s”.
A folk festival grant of more than $1100 funded the work, which was first painted by 19 and 20-year-old Malaysian students who were completing their studies at the Warrnambool Technical College at the time.
