Keast is thrilled to be performing her first song recital in her new hometown, a concert called Who is Mignon? exploring female identity in German art-song.
Keast is a passionate advocate of the performance of art-song. There are many interesting female characters in the genre, such a Mignon from the novel Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship written by Goethe or Gretchen from Franz Schubert's famous song Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel, who have inspired her to share their stories through song.
Several of Keast’s close friends will be joining her to perform this concert. They include Shikara Ringdahl (a Brisbane-based Mezzo-Soprano) and Sine Winther (a Melbourne-based pianist). Ringdahl, Winther and Keast all met during their undergraduate music studies at the Brisbane Conservatorium of Music. This will be the first time the three of them will have performed together.
The performance will last about one hour, and will include songs by Franz Schubert, Hugo Wolf, W.A. Mozart and Robert Schumann that touch on themes of love, heartbreak, independence and solitude. Translations of the texts will be projected for the audience to see, alongside portraits and images that illustrate the characters stories.
Local talented violinist Matthew Lim will also be perform.
Who is Mignon? is at Mozart Hall, Gilles Street, Warrnambool, on November 25 at 7pm. A complimentary supper will be provided after the concert.
