The former Warrnambool woman, who was once an elite swimmer, is delighted the majority of Australians voted in support of same-sex marriage.
“Love is love - I truly believe everyone should have the right to marry the person they love,” Ms Zimmer said.
It will be easy for the couple to remember the day of the yes vote because it came one year and one day after their wedding anniversary.
“We got legally married in Hawaii on November 14, 2016 so this yes vote was literally a day after our first anniversary,” Tay said.
Ms Zimmer said she had received dozens of calls and text messages from friends offering their support after the results were tallied.
“We have beautiful supportive friends and family, I have never in my life come across anyone who wasn't happy for me to be gay or married to a woman,” she said.
Ms Zimmer said the couple would be delighted if their marriage is legal before Ms Gruber gives birth in January.
The couple lives in Perth and Ms Zimmer works as a swimming coach.
