Warrnambool’s Roy Reekie was DJ for the night with vinyl containing The Skyhooks classic All My Friends are Getting Married a favourite choice.
Mr Reekie said the party was planned well before the survey results were released and was glad it was a celebration, rather than a commiseration. He is confident legislation will now be passed to allow same-sex marriage.
Emma Mahony and her partner Rosie Ballard were among those celebrating the result.
The pair have been together for 10 years and engaged for the last nine.
Ms Mahony said the survey result was a step forward.
“This wasn’t so much about marriage, it was more about equality,” she said.
“It was great to get a majority yes vote but the whole process was wrong and sad. Hopefully this result is a point that allows everyone to move forward.”
