Hamilton-based teenager Nadine Bunge, who travels to Warrnambool twice a week for training, won the level five 13-year-old section at Geelong on Sunday.
The Monivae College student is classed as a limited-hours competitor – meaning she trains nine hours or less a week. She defeated unlimited-hour gymnasts to win the state title.
“I was almost crying afterwards because I wasn’t expecting it at all,” she said.
Nadine, 13, also won the floor and beam sections.
“Floor is my favourite apparatus and I have been improving on beam lately, not falling off,” she said.
“Sometimes vault is also a strong point but not on competition day.
“Ballet has helped me a lot with gym. I was doing it for six years but not anymore but it helps me with dance structures.”
Nadine, who also dabbles in cricket and athletics, will compete at the limited-hour Southern Cross Challenge this weekend.
“It’s not about winning but about having a good time with my team because it’s my last competition for the season and last as a level five so I want to enjoy that and make the most of it,” she said.
