Alastair Templeton’s injury-hit side produced a bowling masterclass to lower the colours of Wesley-CBC on Saturday, restricting the Beavers to a score of just 75 at Davidson Oval.

But with several big-name prospects expected to return or debut in coming weeks, Templeton is facing selection headaches as he plots a return to finals action.

“We’ll hopefully have Sam (Younghusband) back soon, and Liam Youl was another who debuted for us last week but was unavailable this week,” Templeton said.

“We’ve had a clearance for Ben Rantall go through as well so there’s just a little more depth for us. 

“I think we’ve missed Sam. He’s a quality player and you can never have too many top order batsmen but there are so many lads who have stepped up in his absence.

“We’ve had an injury to Damian Kenny as well, so I’ve been rapt we’ve been able to win these games against sides like Wesley-CBC.”

Templeton, a second-year coach who plans to test himself in the United Kingdom through the Australian winter, said it was vital for the Panthers to hit their straps leading into two-day cricket.

The diminutive batsman, who averages 36 per innings from number two, hoped West could capitalise on strong form while confidence was high.

“We’ve got to play our best cricket consistently. If you do that often enough, it becomes a bit of a habit,” Templeton said.

“We’re focused on individual and team performances and blocks of 10 overs and innings.

“There are a lot of players running around elsewhere and we can’t watch that and worry about what we can’t control.

“We have to make sure we can just put our best foot forward and keep going.”

West Warrnambool plays Dennington next week.
