AFL Western District interim chair Melanie Curtis is calling for south-west football fans interested in joining the commission to nominate ahead of Monday’s deadline.
The positions will be finalised at the organisation’s annual general meeting in December.
Curtis said candidates weren’t required to have “300 games experience”, but needed a passion for the sport.
She encouraged female football fans to nominate for the position, describing it as “the perfect time to get involved”.
“The beauty of this role is that you can use such a variety of skills,” Curtis said.
“I think it’s great if we have more women to apply as they haven’t had the chance to play the game for so long and now the female game is going so well.
“Generally speaking, boards are better with more diversity. That way, you have a greater variety of ideas and minds coming together to make decisions.”
Curtis said the volunteer role – which encompasses all of south-west Victoria – wasn’t necessarily Warrnambool centric.
“You don’t necessarily have to go to the football every week, or have played 300 games,” she said.
“You need to love the game and understand the role it plays in our community.
“We need that geographical spread. We have such a large region – with four leagues, umpires, and juniors.
“We want people from all over our region. We don’t want to just be Warrnambool centric.” Search AFL Western District on Facebook for more information.
