Lisa Jane Boyd, 46, of Garden Street, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to driving while suspended.
She was not convicted and placed on a six-month bond.
Boyd said her son had called from South West TAFE after severing the top of his thumb as no one else could take him to hospital.
She said she knew she had done the wrong thing but in a moment of panic decided to drive.
Police said that at 2.20pm on September 7 an automatic licence plate recognition device was set up on the west-bound lane of the Princes Highway near the Homemaker Centre.
The device checked Boyd’s licence plate and found that she was a suspended driver.
She lost her licence for six months from June 16 due to demerit points and when officers talked to her she admitted she was a suspended driver.
Magistrate Leonard Brear said he hoped that such an emergency did not arise again because if Boyd was caught driving while suspended in future he expected there would be serious consequences.
