The Warrnambool export was on Thursday confirmed as an Australian PGA starter.
Leishman – a two-time winner on the US PGA circuit in 2017 – joins fellow countryman Adam Scott and Spaniard Sergio Garcia in the Gold Coast tournament’s star-studded field. He will also attend the Greg Norman Medal count as one of the warm favourites.
“To be considered for the Greg Norman Medal is a great honour, particularly given the depth of talent in the Australian golf industry,” Leishman said.
“2017 has been an exceptional year for myself and my family.
“I always like coming home to play and teeing it up at the Australian PGA Championship was particularly important to me this year so I can attend the awards evening and thank the Australian golf fans for all their support this year.
“I have always enjoyed coming to the Gold Coast, it’s a fun tournament in a fun location, I am sure this year will be another excellent week.”
The Australian PGA will run from November 30 to December 3 at Royal Pines.
The Greg Norman Medal, established in 2015 to honour the Australia’s best golfer, will be announced two days prior.
Leishman, who has had five top-10 finishes on the PGA circuit in 2017, is a leading contender.
Jason Day collected the first two medals for his feats on the international stage.
