For most people the show is about relaxing, but for Pagan Karauria it’s about hard work as she competes in the senior shearing and open women’s sections of the show’s shearing competition.

Ms Karauria is part of the big New Zealand contingent that competes in the competition that has a fiercely contested Trans Tasman challenge.
She said the Warrnambool competition was highly regarded in New Zealand with some shearers flying in especially for the challenge.
Ms Karauria comes from a shearing family and often works for her father.
She has been a shearer for about five years and also a shearing instructor.
She is confident she can keep pace with make shearers with her daily records being 320 ewes and 389 lambs.
She was at the competition with several family members and incorporated competing with work in Victoria and South Australia.
