An even spread with the bat helped the 2016-17 wooden-spooners chase down the 182-run target Yambuk set last weekend.
Shannon Richardson led the way with 48, while Brent Fedley chipped in with 29 and recruits Jason and Sam Alberts made 26 not out and 21 not out respectively, helping the visitors to 6-188.
It followed on from an impressive performance last week with the ball by another recruit in Joey Whitton, who took 6-40 off 21 overs.
“We thought we could chase (Yambuk’s total) down – it was less than three (runs) an over – if we batted sensibly,” Woolsthorpe captain Andrew Bridge said.
“It was a great effort to start a new season.”
After winning just one game all last summer and finishing bottom of the GCA A grade ladder, the club set itself a task of recruiting more top-grade players, and brought in some very handy names.
Bridge expects a big summer from Whitton with the ball, and has high hopes for new first-drop batsman Stephen Blacker.
