Joshua Ashley Smith, 25, of Cameron Street, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody until October 31.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said she had no evidence to show that Mr Smith would be welcome back at his mother's home after Mr Smith assaulted her.
Mr Smith said he was finding time in custody extremely difficult and even having a shower was a task due to his Muscular dystrophy.
The court heard that neighbours called police after hearing a disturbance and it was alleged Mr Smith had hit his mother's arms with a pool cue.
It was also alleged he had punched her several times to the head and kicked her.
Police alleged Mr Smith's mother is fearful and did not want her son back living with her.
Mr Smith said he had no doubt his mother would support him living with her although she was not in court to support him.
The magistrate noted the seriousness of the charges, Mr Smith's prior court appearances and she said there was an unacceptable risk of further offending or Mr Smith interfering with a witness if released on bail.
Ms Toose said Mr Smith had also had minimal compliance with a support program while he was recently on bail.
