In: Bryce Gibbs, Sam Gibson
Out: Jake Lever, Harrison Wigg, Charlie Cameron
2017 draft picks: 12, 39, 77
Adelaide decided to chase a flag in 2018, giving up plenty to land Bryce Gibbs. It's a short-term play that will be justified if they can win a premiership in the next two years. Losing Lever and Cameron was a blow but they received a good return for their loss.
BRISBANE LIONS
In: Luke Hodge, Charlie Cameron
Out: Tom Rockliff (free agent), Josh Schache
2017 draft picks: 1, 15, 18, 40, 44, 52, 93
Brings in experience in Hodge and pace with Cameron and it hangs on to the No.1 selection. Losing Rockliff for pick 19 compensation was a good result and shifts the club into new era and offloads Schache. The only way is up.
CARLTON
In: Matt Kennedy, Matthew Lobbe, Darcy Lang
Out: Bryce Gibbs
2017 draft picks: 3, 10, 30, 73
Lost some class in Bryce Gibbs but got a great return for the 28-year-old with two first-round draft picks. Landed Kennedy, a 2015 first-round draft pick, and held on to pick three and 10 to set up an exciting future.
COLLINGWOOD
In: Sam Murray
Out: -
2017 draft picks: 6, 38, 56, 61, 80, 98
Wanted to hold on to pick six so therefore hands were tied in acting on interest in Devon Smith or Jack Watts and ended up landing a pacy defender for next to nothing.
ESSENDON
In: Devon Smith, Adam Saad, Jake Stringer
Out: -
2017 draft picks: 48, 67, 85, 103
A sensational effort from the Bombers to land their three trade targets, adding young, classy players to a top-eight team on the up and holds on to a first-round pick in next year's strong draft.
FREMANTLE
In: Nathan Wilson, Brandon Matera
Out: Hayden Crozier, Lachie Weller, Harley Balic
2017 draft picks: 2, 5, 42, 60, 66, 71, 79, 83, 97
Shocked with Lachie Weller's last-minute request for a trade but extracted maximum value to take selection two and five into the national draft. Picked up some handy senior players for little cost.
GEELONG
In: Gary Ablett
Out: Steve Motlop (free agent), Darcy Lang
2017 draft picks: 22, 24, 35, 58, 72, 90
The prodigal son returns to Geelong in sad circumstances but it feels right. The Cats received a bonus when it received selection 19 as compensation for Motlop and Lang gets an opportunity elsewhere.Their triple treat in the midfield will fill stadiums.
GOLD COAST
In: Harrison Wigg, Aaron Young, Lachie Weller
Out: Gary Ablett, Adam Saad, Brandon Matera
2017 draft picks: 19, 41, 50, 54, 76, 94
Buoyed to get Lachie Weller wanting to play for them but had to pay a high price. Their pick swap with West Coast sets them up for the future and they acted with class in trading out Gary Ablett and Adam Saad for family reasons.
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
In: -
Out: Devon Smith, Nathan Wilson, Matt Kennedy
2017 draft picks: 11, 27, 28, 57, 65, 89, 107
The Giants' work was done when they re-signed Josh Kelly and Jacob Hopper, meaning Kennedy and Smith were likely departures. They did a great job to get selection 11 for Smith.
HAWTHORN
In: Jarman Impey
Out: Luke Hodge
2017 draft picks: 43, 68, 75, 81, 99
The Hawks were low key, as predicted, after being the main attraction last year but Impey is a nice pick-up and Hodge goes to the Lions with good vibes. Stability needed.
MELBOURNE
In: Jake Lever, Harley Balic
Out: Jack Watts
2017 draft picks: 29, 31, 36, 47, 84, 102
Unfairly maligned in some quarters, having picked up one of the game's best young defenders for two first-rounders, but the trade comes on the back of five years' work. It was time for Watts to go. The Demons now have the talent to make finals.
NORTH MELBOURNE
In: -
Out: Sam Gibson
2017 draft picks: 4, 23, 64, 78, 91, 96
Quiet as church mice after making big plays for Dusty Martin and Josh Kelly during the season, the Kangaroos' interest in Lang was only luke-warm and they head to the draft.
PORT ADELAIDE
In: Tom Rockliff (free agent), Steve Motlop (free agent), Jack Watts
Out: Jackson Trengove (free agent), Brendon Ah-Chee, Aaron Young, Logan Austin, Matthew Lobbe, Jarman Impey
2017 draft picks: 46, 49, 59, 62, 63, 86, 95, 104
Big winners, picking up three players that look good on paper for next to nothing and clearing some salary-cap room. They have the talent but their coach Ken Hinkley needs to bring it together.
RICHMOND
In: -
Out: -
2017 draft picks: 17, 20, 25, 53, 55, 74, 92, 110
Sat tight on players but managed to switch some selections to help them recruit new talent and take points into the national draft to use on father-son prospect Patrick Naish. When you win the premiership, you can afford to bide your time.
ST KILDA
In: Logan Austin
Out: -
2017 draft picks: 7, 8, 34, 45
Had a nibble at pacy midfielders but none took the bait. They eventually settled on heading to the draft with two top-10 picks and a young defender in Austin. They need to find a ready-made youngster at pick seven or eight to push for finals.
SYDNEY
In: -
Out: Sam Murray
2017 draft picks: 14, 33, 51, 70, 88
A very quiet trade period with the club unable to create enough salary cap room to become serious players in the chase for Jack Watts.
WEST COAST
In: Brendon Ah Chee
Out: -
2017 draft picks: 13, 21, 26, 32, 37, 69, 87, 105
Nothing dramatic from the Eagles, recruiting an inside mid to fill the gap Matt Priddis and Sam Mitchell left when they retired.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
In: Jackson Trengove (free agent), Hayden Crozier, Josh Schache
Out: Jake Stringer
2017 draft picks: 9, 16, 82, 101
Was on the back foot from the moment Essendon traded pick 11 for Devon Smith in relation to trading out Stringer, who had to go. Crozier a handy replacement and Trengove is a solid citizen. Former No. 2 pick Josh Schache still has plenty of time to make an impact. They have two picks inside 16 for master recruiter Simon Dalrymple to replenish their list.
