Warrnambool Racing Club racecourse manager Daniel Lumsden said the rain was needed following a few warm days in the lead-up to the eight-race card.
“We would have been watering on Thursday afternoon if it never rained,” Lumsden said.
“The top of the ground had dried out a lot after the warm days. We’re only expecting a bit of drizzle before the races, which is ideal.
“The track should be in perfect condition. The running rail will be in the true position.”
Popular Warrnambool trainer Peter Chow has three runners on the program and considers them rough chances of winning. He saddles up Leila’s Star, Irish Moshe and Ziggy Martini.
“Leila’s Star takes her place in a 1200-metre maiden,” Chow said.
“She has not raced for five months, so I reckon she’s going to need the hit-out.
“Irish Moshe is first-up. She had a few issues last time in work and appears to be over them, and Ziggy Martini is second-up after a long break. I was happy with his first-up run and he should run well.”
The first race is scheduled to start at 1.55pm.
