The round on Saturday, October 28, has attracted 30 entries from around Victoria in the event in which not-so-humble ride-on mowers will reach speeds of up to 70 kilometres an hour.
Camperdown College is the only school competing in the round that will involve riders aged from as young as eight to their early seventies.
Teacher Sue Maskell said entire families competed across the event’s four classes that included junior and A, B and C classes.
The A class involves ride-ons with engine sizes up to 450cc while the C class is for 200cc engines. Riders do four laps of a circuit on the college oval.
Mrs Maskell said while its VCAL students had been having a lot of fun training on ride-on mowers they had modified, they also gained a lot of organisational and management skills in organising the event.
Mrs Maskell said the event offered good family fun with children’s entertainment, car boot stalls and was fully catered for.
The October 28 round is the third time that Camperdown College has hosted a round of the Victorian Motor Racing Championships and Mrs Maskell said interest in the racing had grown each time.
“It's a really affordable form of motor sport,” she said.
