The $1 million project will include new facilities for indoor sports, new toilets and revamped clubrooms.
Committee chair Mick Murphy said the project was made possible through support from the state and federal governments, Moyne Shire, Origin Energy, the town’s football and cricket clubs and a number of philanthropic organisations.
He said the upgrade would ensure the town had a community hub, which would also be used as a public meeting place in the case of an emergency and would have an area to allow helicopters to land safely in all weather.
“It will be a multi-purpose facility,” Mr Murphy said.
It is hoped the project will be completed in May next year.
“It’s a vital facility for the region,” Mr Murphy said.
He said he believed the last major upgrade at the facility was in the `70s.
Mr Murphy said the project had received funding from 12 different sources to reach the $1 million target.
