Weir’s Warrnambool satellite foreman Jarrod McLean said it was wonderful to see so many people watching the horses working on the beach.
“There was a big crowd,” McLean said.
“It’s great to see so much support from people wanting to watch the horses work on the beach.
“Humidor and Amelie’s Star trotted, cantered and had a swim but the star of the show was the 2015 Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance.
“He was trained in Warrnambool and used the beach a before his Melbourne Cup win. It was also great to see Warrnambool City Councillors down there looking at the horses work.”
Meanwhile, McLean said Weir’s Japanese stayer Admire Deus was in the best hands at the Ballarat Veterinary Clinic after the seven-year-old stallion suffered a suspensory ligament injury to his nearside foreleg in a track gallop at Warrnambool on Tuesday morning.
Admire Deus was the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup favourite before the mishap.
“Admire Deus is getting the best of care,” he said.
“The vets will sort out over the next few days as to what the next steps are for the stallion.”
The $3-million Caulfield Cup will be run at 4.30pm on Saturday.
