Junior co-ordinator Carolyn Mahony said the Lake Pertobe-based club had attracted new players via its grading day on Saturday.
But it’s still chasing former players’ registrations ahead of its first round on October 28.
Mahony said the junior pennant season’s format ensured players faced different opponents regularly and were pitted against players of a similar skill level.
Groups of eight are formed each week and play two doubles and one singles rubber each.
“Players are graded in one spot and if they win all their matches they’ll gradually go up the (grading) ladder,” Mahony said.
“It (the season) is really for kids who have been playing for a bit or have been having lessons and want to go to the next step and put their lessons into practice.”
The pennant competition caters for players between the ages of nine and 17.
Many of the participants also opt to compete in the club’s Christmas and March long weekend tournaments.
Those seeking opportunities at a higher level can also compete at regional tournaments throughout Victoria.
(It's for kids who) want to go to the next step and put their lessons into practice.
