Koroit police Sergeant Patrick Day said the Ontario woman was involved in the accident on Princes Highway at 6:45pm while she was waiting to turn into the tourist attraction.
“She was stationary facing west waiting to turn into the entrance to Tower Hill in heavy traffic when her 2017 Toyota Corolla hire car was struck from behind by a silver Ford driven by a 79-year-old man from Port Fairy," he said.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and had to be towed away from the accident scene.
“The elderly man was treated by ambulance officers but sustained no injuries. The tourist from Canada was transported to the Warrnambool Base Hospital with a cut to her head and soreness to her right leg," Sergeant Day said.
“The highway was very busy with traffic travelling both ways and there was a very strong sun glare as you came over the crest of the crater travelling west.
“Considering that section of the highway and that time of the evening, both the woman and the elderly man were very lucky not to have sustained more serious injuries," Sergeant Day said.
