A YOUNG man with a history of violent offending has been remanded in custody so medical professionals can assess him.

Dylan John Geen, 21, of no fixed address, appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody until November 16.
He indicated he will plead guilty to trespass, breaching a court order, making a threat to kill, intentionally and wilfully damaging property valued at $550, unlawful assault, unlawful assault with a knife and possessing a controlled weapon.
Other charges have been withdrawn by the police.
Solicitor Jessica Tinetti said she had difficulty getting instructions from Geen although it was clear he wanted to plead guilty even though he did not agree with the police summary of the evidence.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said she had concerns about Geen's mental health and she was not just prepared to lock him up.
She remanded Geen in custody and ordered a forensicare mental health assessment be undertaken.
"These are serious charges and I'm worried about your position," she said.
"I need to know more. I think some of the jigsaw pieces are missing at this stage," she told Geen.
Police said that Geen went to a Hopetoun Road address in Warrnambool that he was banned from and then returned the following when he entered the home.
A woman woke up and found Geen in her home and he requested she let him stay there but she refused.
Police said Geen held a blanket over the woman’s head, punched about 10 holes in walls and said if he wasn't punching the wall he would be punching her.
He smashed the glass door of a cabinet and then grabbed a knife before threatening to kill the woman.
He approached her holding the knife, saying he should cut her throat.
The woman was in fear for her life.
Geen has significant prior court appearances.
