The 2017 ARIA Award nominees were announced at the Art Gallery of NSW on Tuesday morning, with winners to be announced on November 28 at The Star in Sydney.
Roach was nominated in the best blues & roots album category for Let Love Rule. He will be up against All Our Exes Live In Texas (When We Fall), Busby Marou (Postcards From The Shell House), Paul Kelly & Charlie Owen (Death’s Dateless Night), and Tash Sultana (Notion).
Roach has won five ARIAs from 15 nominations. His first nomination and win was way back in 1991.
Airbourne were nominated in the best hard rock/heavy metal album category for their record Breaking Outta Hell. They will be up against Frenzal Rhomb (Hi-Vis High Tea), King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (Murder Of The Universe), Northlane (Mesmer), and Sleepmakeswaves (Made of Breath Only).
The nomination is the fifth for Airbourne, who are yet to win an ARIA. The Warrnambool pub-rockers, who are in the midst of European tour that will last until late November, have been nominated twice before in the best hard rock/heavy metal album category. They were also nominated in 2007 for best rock album and breakthrough album.
