The Warrnambool dog jumping championships will again be a feature of this month’s Warrnambool show and Maverick is hoping it will be the launch pad for his jumping career.

The 18-month-old border collie maremma heeler cross performed well at a practice of the show’s dog jumping stage on the weekend, reaching 1.9 metres, ahead of teammate Max who won last year’s championship with a 1.8 metre jump.
Owner Alivia Bottrell said the Warrnambool championships would be Maverick’s first competitive effort but she did not put her dogs through any intensive training regime.
The Warrnambool championships, to be be held at lunch-time on Saturday, October 28, will have classes for small, medium and large dogs and offer good prize money.
Another practice for people who have dogs they are considering entering in the championships will be held at the Warrnambool showgrounds at 2pm on Saturday, October 14.
