The Warrnambool resident has been a passionate Crows supporter since the club joined the league in 1991.

Mr Vanstone is excited about Saturday’s game and believes the Crows will be too strong for Richmond in the AFL grand final. 

“I think they can win,” Mr Vanstone said. “Their pressure and the way they’re playing in the forward line and in defense is probably second to none the way they’ve played this year.

“I went and saw Adelaide versus Port Adelaide when they gave Port a flogging at the showdown. The atmosphere was magnificent, it really was.” 

Mr Vanstone said this season was one of the best years of football he’d seen the team play and credited the club’s late coach Phil Walsh, who died in 2015, for the role he had played in developing the team. 

“That’s one of the reasons (I’d like to see them win). He started the way they’re playing now. It’s his legacy I suppose,” he said.

He predicts the Crows will win by six goals and is looking forward to them taking to the field. 

“I’m excited about it because I think we’ve got a really good chance at winning. They’re a pretty even side I reckon.”

Mr Vanstone said his three children barracked for Adelaide when they were younger but had been “brainwashed” by their mum who supported Carlton.

“I’m originally a South Australian. I used to barrack for St Kilda and then I always said whenever they brought a (SA) side into the competition I’d barrack for them. I’ve been one-eyed ever since,” he said. “My parents in South Australia and all my family barracks for Adelaide.”

Mr Vanstone will be watching the game at home or at a mate’s place as Richmond contest their first premiership play-off since losing to Carlton in 1982.

The club has won 10 premierships since its first in 1920 while Adelaide will be looking to win its third premiership cup since beating St Kilda in 1997 and North Melbourne in 1998.
