Almost 100 drivers were nabbed using their mobile phones illegally, as part of a 10-day police road blitz in North Melbourne in August and police are keen to catch more distracted drivers in a of a crackdown on phone use behind the wheel.
Operation Vallejo, which focuses on the North Melbourne area, will continue until the end of October.
The campaign, which started August, has led police to detect 476 offences, including 156 speeding offences and nearly one hundred drivers using their mobile phones.
To have this many drivers caught doing the wrong this is just astonishing," said Melbourne North Police Station Sergeant Bob Merlino.
"To all drivers coming to North Melbourne, please obey all speed limits and leave your mobile phone in your pocket.
"If you are caught doing the wrong thing, you will be booked - there will be no warnings."
In July during another police blitz in Carlton, some motorists were caught watching porn videos on their phone while driving.
The discovery led to calls for a restriction on accessing mobile phone data while driving.
During that two-hour police operation, involving just four Highway Patrol police officers, 53 people were issued with traffic infringements for using mobile phones while driving in Carlton.
Motorists were watching movies, social media and some were even caught watching porn.
