POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision at Weering, about 30 kilometres north of Colac, on the Hamilton Highway early Monday evening.

Officers have been told a van travelling west along the Hamilton Highway crossed over onto the wrong side of the road and collided with an east-bound truck just before 6pm east of Lake Corangamite.
The driver of the van, believed to be a man, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries.
The highway was closed for a number of hours.
Police from Colac, Ballarat and Geelong attended at the accident scene.
There have been 187 lives lost on Victorian roads this year compared to 214 for the same period last year.
