Acclaimed cyclist Scott McGrory has been appointed race director of the iconic race.
McGrory, a former coach and media personality, said he felt “honoured” to undertake the position.
“I feel very honored and have a great sense of responsibility with this challenge,” he said. “We know this race is so iconic both in Australia and globally and we need to do everything in our power to make sure it receives the accolades it deserves.
“I have a lot of work to do in the lead-up and the race itself will be a challenge. But it will be great to be so deeply involved in such an iconic race.”'
The 47-year-old won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, topping the silver medal in the Madison at the 1996 UCI World Champions in Manchester and the bronze medal in the team pursuit at the 1988 Olympics.
The race is set to take place on October 14.
