Families escaped the wet weather by visiting the Warrnambool library to try their hand at the ancient art form.
Library technician Julie Murnane said they were inundated with families when they opened the doors on Monday morning.
She said one of the best things about the activities was that all ages could participate. Shapes include a frog, a boat, a lady bug and an advanced paper plane.
Jacob King, 9, from Portland said he enjoyed making a dog and cat in the session.
Andrea Sampson took Jacob to the library and said it was a great idea, which connected and encouraged young people to visit the facility.
Participants need a library card to receive an origami pack. They make origami in the library, return unused items from the pack and take their creation home.
Origami can be made at any time during the holidays.
