The 2005 Terang Mortlake premiership player added a second Hampden league flag to his resume on Saturday, winning the AFL Victoria Medal for his role in the Saints’ 21-point victory over Port Fairy.

“The boys just really want to work hard. It’s not a given right that you’re going to win a premiership,” O’Connor said.

“It’s probably 30 blokes all up pushing for a senior gig, so it’s not as if there’s just talent here and they get the job done, they actually really work for it, so that was the most enjoyable thing.”

O’Connor, whose first flag 12 years ago also came at the Seagulls’ expense, said he was proud to be a Koroit player.

“I’m over the moon. It was a close game,” he said.

“It was great fun and good contested footy that we love.”
