Fundraising for The Lookout, a proposed 20-bed facility, is halfway, delighting Western Region Alcohol and Drug Centre (WRAD) director Geoff Soma.
In an enormous fundraising effort similar to the community campaign to raise money for the cancer care centre, residents have dug deep in the first month. “We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of the general public,” Mr Soma said.
“In regards to people making smaller to larger donations, the whole community has contributed to making the campaign a success so far.”
Mr Soma said donations had come from individuals and businesses including Sharp Airlines, Quest Warrnambool, Darrian Office Supplies, South West Credit, the Cally Hotel and Spectrum Digital Printing.
“We have also had donations from the general community and the Gwen and Edna Jones Foundation and the AL Lane Foundation,” he said.
Mr Soma said people had walked in off the street to donate large sums at WRAD.
It has committed $600,000 to the new centre, and the community campaign is aiming to raise another $605,000.
The latest tally comes after Warrnambool business Northeast Stockdale and Leggo donated $10,0000 this week.
