In May this year, councillors voted to replace 21 of the existing Monterey cypresses with the same species as part of a trial.
The existing trees in the avenue of honour are diseased and dying, according to an arborist’s report.
The petition, which has 134 signatures on it and asks for the decision to be “reconsidered”, will be officially tabled at Tuesday’s council meeting in Mortlake, but as per local laws it can not be acted upon by council until the following month's meeting.
The council will also table a petition asking for a footpath along Villiers Street in Port Fairy.
The petition, which features 120 signatures, is asking for a path to be constructed between Bank Street and the Princes Highway as “currently it is unsafe for the high number of children walking or biking to and from school”.
The council meeting will also discuss a barbecue facility in Koroit and access at Port Fairy’s East Beach.
