Visitors to Emmanuel College would be forgiven for thinking they had walked into the scene of a horror movie on Friday.
Almost 200 year 12 students donned dark make up and dressed up as ‘nurses with a twist’ to celebrate Emmanuel Day.
The remaining staff and students displayed some creative outfits dressing as their heroes as part of the day’s ‘Ignite Your Flame’ theme.
The celebration also included a long held tradition – the year 11 versus year 12 girls’ football match, Emmanuel’s Got Talent, a liturgy and fundraising food stalls and activities.
The annual event celebrates the college and honors its founders, raising money for the Reuben Centre in Nairobi, Kenya and Mercy Works projects in Papua New Guinea.
The centre, managed by past student Brother Frank O’Shae, provides education and heathcare to Mukuru Slum residents.
Deputy principal Brian Brown said the students enjoyed the day while also thinking of and raising money for the needy.
