Creative local artists are being asked to join Rotary’s 25 year celebrations next month.

When the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East launch their annual Artshow on October 6, winning artists will be the ones to share in birthday bonuses.

This year marks 25 years since the event was first held at Emmanuel College in 1992 and as part of the celebrations total prize money has increased to $9500.

Winner of the best local artist category will win $900, double the amount of previous years.

Warrnambool chairman Artshow Peter Hasell said this year’s show would have some surprises.

“We’re just adding a few touches to help mark 25 years,” he said. “We’ll still have art, champagne, canapes and jazz, but this year we’ve got some nice touches up our sleeve.”

Mr Hasell said this year they were supporting the I-Can Network. “We were so impressed with what they do with kids,” he said. “We’re really pleased to support them.”
