Husband and wife team Damian and Jess are both preparing to line up for Koroit teams in grand finals.
It would be a dream finish to their first season at Victoria Park since crossing from rival Hampden club Terang Mortlake, after having last season off as they travelled.
Jess, who was named the Hampden league’s open grade best and fairest winner on Sunday, has previously played in grand finals with both the Saints and Bloods about a decade ago, and is looking forward to her return to the big stage against Camperdown.
“It’s been a big week,” she said. “Hopefully we can come home with two premiership wins.
“(Camperdown) play a similar style game to us and we haven’t played them since mid-year, so it’ll be a good contest.”
Damian, who signed on as an assistant coach with the Saints’ senior footy side this season, had not expected to get much game time, but will line up for his 18th match of 2017 in the grand final against Port Fairy.
“I didn’t really have any intention play many games at all,” he said.
“I played more games than I wanted to (at the start of the year) because we were pushing for that top spot.”
The O’Connors are not the only Saints husband-and-wife combination striving for flag success this weekend: senior footy coach Chris McLaren and his wife Sarah, who plays division two netball, are also in the hunt.
