IT was a huge grand final day in the Hampden league with Colac-Coragulac winning both the senior and reserves premierships. But it wasn’t just the football that was making headlines with four players reported in both grades. The senior game was marred by an all-in-brawl in the first quarter before the Brian Brown-coached Tigers settled to win by 56 points. In the reserves, Colac-Coragulac won a thriller against Koroit by three points.

LINDSAY Cottee led South Rovers to victory over West End-Allansford in the Warrnambool and district league grand final. Centreman Brian Richards was best on ground while Neville Mahony kicked five goals. South Rovers also won the reserves premiership.

AUSSIE band The Models headed the singles charts in Warrnambool with their song Out of Mind Out of Sight sitting at number one on the local charts. On the album charts, it was international superstars Dire Straits leading the way with their LP Brothers in Arms.

A POLL carried out by The Standard showed there was strong support from CBD traders for a mall in Warrnambool. Those in favour thought a mall would help attract more shoppers to the city’s centre. Those against felt a mall would restrict traffic flow and access.
IT was announced the Warrnambool College of Technical and Further Education would take over use of the old customs house in Gillies Street.
THERE was drama at the Moyne River in Port Fairy when a 10-metre cray boat sank while moored at the wharf. A crane was used to lift the boat out of the water.
AMBULANCE Victoria said three new vehicles would be given to the Warrnambool station.
ABOUT $5000 was raised for multiple sclerosis at a function in September, 1985.
The function was held at the Sportsman’s Arms Hotel in Curdievale.
The event was instigated by Nirranda farmer and multiple sclerosis sufferer Ian Morey. More than 100 people came along to the fundraiser which included a luncheon and other activities.
People came from as far away as Portland, Warrnambool and Terang for the function.
Hotel proprietor Patricia Beggs said Mr Morey was thrilled with the turn out on the day.
The hotel donated a jug of beer and a carafe of wine for each table on the day.
All money raised went to research into multiple sclerosis and for rehabilitation equipment for sufferers of the condition.
