Andrew Dyer will be at the Hawkesdale Hall from 5pm to answer questions and address concerns regarding the proposed amendments to the Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale wind farms.
Mr Dyer was appointed to the role of national wind farm commissioner position by the federal environment minister in October 2015.
The commissioner is an independent position tasked “to receive and refer complaints from concerned community residents about wind farms, as well as promote best practices for industry and government to adopt in regard to the planning and operation of wind farms”, according to the federal government.
The Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale wind farms were approved in 2008.
Project proponent Ryan Corner Development Pty Ltd is awaiting approval from state planning minister Richard Wynne to increase its blade tip height from 126.3 metres to 180 metres at the Hawkesdale and Ryan Corner wind farms.
The amendment applications would also see the number of turbines drop from 31 to 26 at Hawkesdale and 68 to 56 at Ryan Corner.
If successful, they will be the fifth and sixth Moyne Shire wind farms to get such a planning permit amendment. The amendment would not change the location of the wind farm.
Both projects are expected to be completed by August 29, 2019.
Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell, Moyne Shire mayor Jim Doukas, and several other Moyne councillors will join the national wind farm commissioner at Friday’s public meeting in Hawkesdale.
