The Grassmere resident lives and works on Injemira Road and has had to replace six tyres in four months. “It’s beyond a joke,” he said.
Mr Jeffery is so fed up, the family is considering moving into Warrnambool to avoid the road. “It’s wrecking tyres, cars and suspension,” he said.
The family has spent about $1200 on new tyres. “Not to mention cracked and scratched rims and paint getting knocking off rims.”
He has a Ford FG Falcon XR6 Turbo that is garaged permanently and is for sale because he doesn’t want it damaged any further.
Mr Jeffery shared videos of the condition of Injemira Road on Facebook over the weekend, with one viewed more than 17,000 times.
In the footage, Mr Jeffery can be seen kicking sections of the crumbling road and picking up large pieces of bitumen after blocked drains were unable to cope with the recent rain deluge.
He would like to see the drains cleared regularly and long-term solutions to the road which Moyne Shire crews repaired and reopened at 2pm Monday.
He is like many motorists fed up with the region’s roads.
Warrnambool’s Glenn Kelly performs at the Caramut pub regularly and said sections of Caramut Road were “treacherous” especially at night when he had to slow to 70km/h because of potholes. “The state of the road is pathetic,” he said.
Mr Kelly regularly travels on the Princes and Hamilton highways to Melbourne and said it was a matter of time before someone was killed or seriously injured, calling on the government to “stop patching the roads and fix them”.
John McConnell said a stretch of Ayresford Road, outside Terang, between Gores and Howards roads. He said a resident had changed a speed limit sign from 80km/h to 40km/h, which he said was appropriate considering its state.
“A few years ago they picked up 1000 signatures in a petition for the Ayresford Road,” Mr McConnell said. “It’s never been fixed up. It’s a disgrace that road. It’s basically the same as it was in 1956.”
