Organisers are predicting 10,000 spectators will flock through the Reid Oval gates for the April 14 showcase – one of just two scheduled in regional Victoria next year as part of a 77-show world tour.

Warrnambool City Council visitor economy manager David McMahon said the freestyle motocross, BMX and skate event was a “major coup” for the region.

Nitro Circus’ three-hour afternoon program will finish in time for motorsport fans to stop in at Premier Speedway for its season-ending competition.

“This is a major coup for Warrnambool and a magnificent addition to our event calendar,” Mr McMahon said.

“To be one of just eight shows across Australia, confirms Warrnambool as a serious player in attracting and hosting significant events.

“And these events come with tangible economic outcomes, with thousands of visitors from across Victoria expected to spend the weekend in our city as well as the branding benefits of the national marketing campaign.”

Nirto Circus co-founder and headline act Travis Pastrana, speaking to The Standard from his American base, said he enjoyed bringing the event to regional areas.

“The regional tours are the ones that get it the most – they’re the rowdiest crowds, they might not be as big as the crowds as you get in the capital city tours but the crowd understands moto and they’re excited to be there,” he said.

Pastrana said outdoor venues, such as Reid Oval, gave Nitro Circus performers a chance to test their limits.

“And at the end of the day, we can go higher,” he said.

“It’s the Next Level Tour – the first tour where we haven’t done an indoor venue, so that allows us to bring in the biggest ramps we’ve ever had on tour.”

Both Warrnambool and East Warrnambool football netball clubs have ticked off on the event which will be run during their seasons.

Tickets go on sale on Sunday, October 15.
