President Gordon McLeod has laid the foundations for a female-only pre-season coaching masterclass with some of the district’s top mentors.
Led by newly-appointed Allansford coach Dan Schuppan and Nirranda’s Jason Mungean, the ‘come and try’ workshop will feature coaching on the game’s most basic skills.
McLeod said the September 24 workshop, which is set to be held at Active Sportz on Mortlake Road, would launch the new female cricket season.
“It’s all about the basics – what you need to do to bowl a ball, to attack the wicket and to score runs,” he said.
“It’s really encouraging to see how girls cricket has been accepted in Warrnambool.
“We’ve got a lot of teams in the competition now, as it started from just ad hoc matches two years ago and it’s now a structured competition.”
